Introduction to SEO

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is the process of improving your website to increase its visibility when people search for products or services related to your business in Google, Bing, and other search engines.

1

What is SEO & Why is it Important?

SEO is the process of making your site "readable" and "trustworthy" for search engines so they show your site to users. It's important because organic (free) traffic is often the highest-converting traffic source for a business.

2

How Search Engines Work

Search engines work through a cycle: Crawling (discovery), Indexing (filing), and Ranking (sorting). In 2026, this also includes AI-driven summaries that answer users before they even click a link.

3

Types of SEO

On-Page: Content and HTML (Keywords, Headlines). Off-Page: Authority building (Backlinks, Social proof). Technical: The "engine" of your site (Speed, Mobile-friendliness). Local: For businesses with physical locations.

4

White Hat vs. Black Hat SEO

White Hat SEO follows Google's rules to build long-term success. Black Hat uses tricks (like hidden text or buying links) that can get your website permanently banned from search results.

5

Understanding SERP (Search Engine Results Page)

The SERP is no longer just "10 blue links." It includes AI Overviews, Video carousels, Map packs, and Featured Snippets. Understanding these helps you decide which "feature" to target.

6

Basics of Keywords & Search Intent

Keywords are the words people type. Search Intent is the purpose (Are they looking to buy, or just to learn?). Google now ranks content based on how well it satisfies the intent, not just the keyword.
